Training Workshops “Third-Country Nationals and Latvian Citizens – Strong Together” Were Held

On 28–29 April and 8–9 May 2025, the Daugavpils University Lifelong Learning, Culture, and Science Communication Society “Park of Intellect” organised training workshops for its members and volunteers within the framework of the project “The Power of Involvement”, No. 2025.LV/NVOF/MAC/071. The workshops focused on the integration of third-country nationals in the context of lifelong learning innovations, with particular attention paid to the mapping of social aspects.

The workshops were led by Dr philol., Professor Maija Burima, Chair of the Board of the “Park of Intellect” Society and Project Manager of “The Power of Involvement”. The events were held in a hybrid format, both in person in Daugavpils and online via the Zoom videoconferencing platform.

As part of the programme, the participants explored current issues related to the integration of third-country nationals, analysed social, cultural, and economic challenges, and discussed the importance of lifelong learning innovations in the integration process. Particular attention was paid to social inclusion, a sense of belonging, recognition of individual needs and previous experience, as well as the impact of social barriers such as discrimination, isolation, and lack of information.

During the practical sessions, the participants analysed experiences and real-life situations, mapped social needs and available resources, and developed models of potential problems and solutions. Through discussion and collaborative work, recommendations were formulated for improving lifelong learning initiatives, and directions for future cooperation in the field of integration were identified.

The workshops promoted active exchange of experience, interdisciplinary dialogue, and the joint development of solutions, strengthening the participants’ understanding of the integration processes of third-country nationals and the development of an inclusive society.
