From 30 May to 6 June 2025, representatives of the Daugavpils University Lifelong Learning, Culture, and Science Communication Society “Park of Intellect”-Chair of the Board and Project Manager Dr philol., Professor Maija Burima, Project Coordinator Dr philol., Associate Professor Ingrīda Kupšāne, and Project Coordinator Mg. philol. Eva Bogdāne-participated in an experience-exchange visit to the Rondine Cittadella della Pace Association in Arezzo, Italy. The organisation specialises in intercultural dialogue and peace education initiatives in its work with refugees and asylum seekers.
During the experience-exchange visit, the delegation of the “Park of Intellect” Society learned about the application of an intercultural module in innovative educational programmes designed to support the integration of third-country nationals. The module developed by the Rondine Cittadella della Pace Association is an internationally adaptable solution based on peace education, conflict transformation, and intercultural dialogue. It is successfully used in work with young people, refugees, and asylum seekers.
During the visit, the Society’s representatives gained first-hand experience of an approach in which education is used as a tool to promote social cohesion and mutual understanding. They acquired valuable insights into the possibilities of adapting this model to Latvia’s social and educational context.
The meetings included the use of case-study methods, the analysis of good-practice examples, and discussions on transferring the acquired experience and integrating it into the activities implemented by the “Park of Intellect” Society.
The knowledge gained is planned to be incorporated into the interdisciplinary modular programme “INTEGLAT”, developed by the Society to support the integration of third-country nationals and the acquisition of Latvian citizenship through naturalisation.
Participation in the international experience exchange made a significant contribution to strengthening the Society’s capacity by promoting the development of innovative approaches based on intercultural dialogue in work with refugees, asylum seekers, and other third-country nationals in Latvia.
