Riga’s teachers strengthen their competences for working in a diverse society

From August 18 to 22, 2025, the society “Park of Intelligence implemented a 40-hour training course titled “Diversity in Society and Intercultural Communication”, attended by teachers from Riga Arkādija Secondary School and Riga Pārdaugava Primary School. Over the course of five days, the participants took part in an intensive and content-rich learning process during which they explored current topics and practical approaches to working in a diverse society.
Under the guidance of experienced and professional lecturers, the participants of the training course explored topics related to hate speech and hate crimes, cultural competence, international law and professional ethics, the foundations of discrimination, intercultural communication, stereotypes, and prejudice. The sessions were conducted in an interactive and engaging format, using various teaching methods such as discussions, group work, and case analysis.
During the course, the teachers actively participated in discussions, shared their experiences, and improved their skills in working with representatives of different cultures. As the participants noted, the five days passed quickly because the learning process was both informative and inspiring. It should be added that the importance and quality of the course content were also confirmed by the feedback received in the satisfaction survey. “I am satisfied with the knowledge I gained. Everything was very interesting!” said one of the participants. Others emphasized that the topics were engaging, diverse, and relevant to their professional needs, and they appreciated the lecturers’ professionalism and responsiveness. “The instructors know how to engage and support each participant, creating a friendly and inspiring learning environment.” One respondent added, “I didn’t expect it to be so interesting. Thank you for a wonderful course!” The participants were particularly inspired by the opportunity to meet citizens of third countries who shared authentic personal stories about their cultural traditions and everyday life, broadening perspectives and fostering understanding of cultural diversity. In October, the training course “Diversity in Society and Intercultural Communication” will be offered to employees of the State Probation Service in the Latgale region.
