This year’s theme is related to the Poetry Days in Latvia. During your visit to the cultural site Rainis’ House in Berķenele, you’ll have the chance to meet Latvian writers, translators, and literary scholars. Please note that the event is intended for adults only.

Think Tank: “How to Write About Trauma?”
Led by writer Inga Gaile and literary scholar Dr. philol. Sandra Meškova, Associate Professor at the Department of Languages and Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Daugavpils University.

The session will focus on the interplay between autobiographical literature and traumatic experience, exploring writing as therapy and as a post-traumatic practice. We will discuss the representation of war in the consciousness, memories, and genres of Ukrainian civilians – diaries, letters, blogs, as well as how writing can help share experiences and heal trauma.

13.00-14.30 

Masterclass on Translating Ukrainian Literature
Led by Latvian writer, translator, and literary critic Māra Poļakova.

In this masterclass, under the guidance of an experienced translator, we will work with original texts, analyse language nuances and cultural differences, and explore creative approaches to the translation process.

 

Free transport will be provided for participants from Riga and Daugavpils to the event venue and back.
