Activities implemented within the project “My Latvian Language Portfolio” in the first quarter of 2025

The Daugavpils University Society “Intellect Park” for Lifelong Learning, Culture, and Science Communication continues to implement the project “My Latvian Language Portfolio”, No. PMIF/13.2./2023/1/10, within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027 programming period, Activity 13.2. “Inclusion of Third-Country Nationals in the Local Community by Promoting Opportunities for Learning and Using the Latvian Language”.
In the first quarter of 2025, a total of 80 third-country nationals from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Georgia and New Zealand successfully completed Latvian language courses, while 38 third-country nationals completed the conversation language club sessions “I Want to Talk to You”. The courses and conversation club sessions were held both in person and via the online conference platform ZOOM. New groups have been formed, and it is planned that by April 10, 2025, a total of 101 people from Israel, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Grenada and Uzbekistan will have started Latvian language courses. Among them, 88 are first-time participants, and 13 will continue their studies at the next language proficiency level.
It is planned that by March 2025, 54 learners from various regions of Latvia will have improved their Latvian language skills by one proficiency level through remote learning, and 29 learners from Daugavpils and Augšdaugava Municipality will have done so through in-person classes. All participants will be prepared for the State Language Proficiency Examination organized by the National Centre for Education (VISC).
The majority of course participants -57 third-country nationals – will acquire Latvian language skills at the A2 proficiency level, while 26 third-country nationals will reach the B1 proficiency level. Additionally, 43 individuals are continuing their Latvian language studies at the next proficiency level.
Within the framework of the project, during the new period, participants of the three groups of the conversation language club “I Want to Talk to You” will develop everyday communication skills in an informal setting. Native Latvian speakers and close relatives of third-country nationals will also take part in the conversation club sessions, providing participants with greater opportunities for social inclusion and integration into Latvian society.
To help the course participants gain a better understanding of Latvia’s social and cultural environment and broaden their knowledge of social and individual values, traditions and customs, well-known public figures, i.e. experts and opinion leaders, will be invited to the conversation club sessions.
The first conversation club sessions for two groups will take place on September 28, 2024. The conversation club programme will be implemented with a total of 32 hours of instruction for A2 and B1 language proficiency level groups.

The courses are organized within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027 programming period, Activity 13.2. “Inclusion of Third-Country Nationals in the Local Community by Promoting Opportunities for Learning and Using the Latvian Language”, project “My Latvian Language Portfolio”, No. PMIF/13.2./2023/1/10.
