The project “Let’s Experience Latvia Together” has been approved

Daugavpils University Association for Lifelong Learning, Culture, and Science Communication “Intellect Park”, through participation in the competition of Latvian state budget-funded programme “Cultural Orientation Courses and Inclusion Activities for Ukrainian Civilians”, has received financial support for the project “Let’s Experience Latvia Together”, ID No. 2024.LV/2/UKR_KO/023!

The general goal of the project is to provide cultural orientation courses and organize three events for 236 Ukrainian civilians, including children of preschool age or those in general education (grades 1-12), promoting cooperation between Ukrainian civilians and Latvian society.

 

The specific goal of the project is to implement cultural orientation courses and organize three events with an emphasis on the use and acquisition of the Latvian language, to strengthen the awareness of Ukrainian civilians, preschool-aged children or school-aged children (grades 1-12) in particular, of Latvian history, culture, and society. This aims to promote the integration of the target audience into Latvian society and cooperation with the host community.

 

Target group: 236 Ukrainian civilians and 10 representatives of the host community.

Implementation locations: Daugavpils, Krāslava Municipalities, Rīga for in-person activities; all of Latvia for remote activities.

Project implementation period: July 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024

Activities and Results

Within the project, a set of four activities will be implemented.

“Cultural Orientation Courses” both in-person and remotely. The course programme, featuring interactive and age-appropriate teaching methods and support materials, will provide knowledge on 4 topics: 1. Latvian history, culture, and values; 2. State governance and legal system; 3. Latvian language in school and daily life; 4. Trips to the most beautiful places in Latvia.

 

Conversation Club “I Want to Talk with You” both in-person and remotely. This activity will enhance the Latvian language proficiency of Ukrainian civilians who are school-aged children (grades 1-12) and strengthen their motivation to use Latvian in diverse communicative situations. Additionally, during the activity, the target audience will develop language skills necessary for education in Latvian, making it easier for the children to use Latvian in school.

 

educational excursion “Annele and Sprīdītis’ Journey”. The sub-activities of the educational excursion “Annele and Sprīdītis’ Journey” will be differentiated according to children’s age groups, using group work methods and involving family members of the children, representatives of the host community, and volunteers.

 

–  Latvian Language Courses will provide knowledge about the use of the Latvian language, helping Ukrainian children (grades 5-12) develop Latvian language skills that are necessary for education in Latvian.

 

Project Results

The target audience will enhance their understanding of Latvia, its society, history, and culture; improve and apply Latvian language skills in the educational process and in local community social and cultural activities; and develop and enhance Latvian language skills necessary for studying in Latvian and integrating into the Latvian education system and society. By utilizing various support therapy elements, the project activities will promote the well-being of Ukrainian civilian children in Latvia.

The project is financially supported by the Society Integration Foundation from the allocated Latvian state budget funds. 

The content of the project activities is the responsibility of the Daugavpils University Association for Lifelong Learning, Culture, and Science Communication “Intellect Park”.
