In November and December 2024, within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027 programming period, Activity No. 13.4. “Intercultural Communication Training for Professionals from Various Fields” and the project “Opportunity Community. Intercultural Communication Training for Professionals from Various Fields to Strengthen the Integration Framework for Third-Country Nationals”, No. PMIF/13.4./2024/1/01, an “Intensive Training Course with a Multi-Day Offsite Camp” was organized, totaling 40 hours.
The training course was attended by officials from the State Police of the Latgale Regional Department, South Latgale Precinct of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Latvia, as well as educators from various educational institutions who work daily with third-country nationals.
This time, the training course was organized in a blended format – both at the training facilities of the Society “Intellect Park” and as a multi-day offsite camp at the recreation complex “Lejasmalas”.
During the training course, under the guidance of professional experts and through various interactive methods, participants explored the following relevant topics: “Hate Speech and Hate Crimes”, “Cultural Competence and Understanding of Cultural Norms”, “International Law and Professional Ethics”, “The Main Grounds of Discrimination and Principles for Its Prevention”, “Intercultural Communication – Forms, Styles, and Differences in Communication and Perception Across Cultures” and “Stereotypes and Prejudices”.
The participant satisfaction survey highlighted the great appreciation for the opportunity to take part in discussions, share experiences and hear the stories and perspectives of third-country nationals on various intercultural issues and the openness of society in Latvia. The participants expressed their gratitude to the course organizers for the opportunity to expand their knowledge and develop practical skills in intercultural communication. They emphasized that the skills acquired will significantly facilitate their professional work, especially in interactions with third-country nationals, promoting their integration and ensuring more accessible, high-quality services. The participants acknowledged that the course not only helped them better understand cultural diversity but also provided valuable tools and approaches that will be essential for building respectful and effective communication between people from different cultural backgrounds.
The training sessions were held on November 16-17 and December 12-14, 2024, within the framework of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021-2027 programming period, Activity No. 13.4. “Intercultural Communication Training for Professionals from Various Fields” and the project “Opportunity Community. Intercultural Communication Training for Professionals from Various Fields to Strengthen the Integration Framework for Third-Country Nationals”, project No. PMIF/13.4./2024/1/01. Training materials, as well as coffee breaks and lunches were delivered through the project funds, thus creating a productive and motivating learning environment.
