In August 2024, Daugavpils University Association for Lifelong Learning, Culture, and Science Communication “Intellect Park” launched Latvian language courses as part of the project “Let’s Experience Latvia Together”, ID No. 2024.LV/2/UKR_KO/023, funded by the Latvian state budget under the programme “Cultural Orientation Courses and Integration Activities for Ukrainian Civilians”. The goal of the courses is to facilitate the integration of Ukrainian civilians of school age into the Latvian education system and society.
The Latvian language courses are conducted remotely via the ZOOM e-conference platform, led by professional and experienced teachers. Sixty Ukrainian civilians, aged 11 to 18, are participating. The classes take place in three groups. During the course, participants will gain knowledge about the use of the Latvian language. Language skills will be enhanced through scenarios modeled on everyday school situations, helping Ukrainian civilians of school age (grades 5 to 12) adapt to the language and school environment, while also reducing language barriers.
Latvian language proficiency will be reinforced by using original teaching materials developed by the course instructors during the classes and by integrating innovative teaching methods appropriate to the participants’ level of knowledge.
