Representatives of the US Embassy in Latvia visited the association “Intelekta Parks”.
On December 5, 2024, the cultural attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Latvia, Cale Wagner, along with U.S. Embassy representatives Natalia Osheverova and Sintija Jurgelāne, visited the organisation “Intellect Park”.
The chairperson of the organisation’s board and project manager, Prof. Maija Burima, provided an update on the progress of the project “Raising Awareness about Hate Speech and Its Prevention in Latvian Civil Society”, offering an overview of the activities carried out so far. As part of the project, workshops and structured discussions were organised for students, third-country nationals, Latvian citizens, and educators working with third-country nationals. Prof. Maija Burima presented the findings of a study conducted within the project, focusing on the experience of implementing non-formal education programmes aimed at preventing hate speech among the target audience of third-country nationals in Latvia. Based on the study findings, a scientific article titled “Non-Formal EducationalPrograms for the Prevention of Hate Speech in a Polysegmental Society in the Situation of Geopolitical Conflicts” has been prepared and published in the ICERI2024 conference proceedings. Mr. Cale Wagner expressed his appreciation for the work accomplished within the project and encouraged participation in future grant programmes offered by the U.S. Embassy in Latvia.
